The Grand Rapids-Wyoming Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 617,051 in 1970 to 989,063 in 2010. That was an increase of 60.3 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 21,536 in 1970 to 58,145 in 2010. That was an increase of 170.0 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 3.5 percent to 5.9 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 56.3 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the major factor adding population in all periods.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the major factor in adding population.
